Floating Roof Detection with Displacer Switches   Printer Friendly Version
The Proof-er® roof top control is designed for installation on "barrier" (floating roof) tanks. The control may be furnished with a lead displacer to prevent sparking. A stainless steel displacer is required if the control is to actuate in liquid as well as by the barrier.
Operating Principle Features Options Downloads Approvals

Operation is based upon simple buoyancy, whereby a spring is loaded with weighted displacers. Weights suspended from a range spring cause the spring to extend. As the floating roof contacts the weights, the load on the spring is reduced causing the spring to compress.

A magnetic sleeve connected to the spring moves within a non-magnetic barrier tube. As it moves into or out of the field of the switch magnet the switch is activated.
